The Archdiocese issued a statement expressing concern over the decision to honor a group that mocks Catholic religious sisters and stages lewd performances aimed at ridiculing Jesus and the Catholic Mass.
On the same day, the Los Angeles Dodgers are scheduled to celebrate their annual “Pride Night” by honoring the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.” Archbishop Gomez tweeted about the feast of Jesus’ Sacred Heart and invited people to join him in a special Mass at the archdiocese’s cathedral. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is the largest Catholic archdiocese in the United States.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) issued a statement urging Catholics to pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart as an act of reparation. The bishops emphasized the importance of recognizing Christ’s love for humanity during the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. They condemned the decision to honor a group that engages in lewd and blasphemous behavior, stating that it is offensive, painful, and amounts to blasphemy.
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, an organization featuring performers in drag dressed as nuns, are being recognized by the Los Angeles Dodgers for their charitable work within the LGBTQ+ community.
