Shocking: Governor Abbott’s Ultimatum on School Choice

Oh, look, it’s Governor Greg Abbott of Texas threatening to veto a school choice bill! How surprising! I mean, who would have thought that a Republican governor would oppose giving parents more options for their children’s education? Clearly, he has the best interests of the students at heart.

According to Abbott, the current version of the legislation only applies to a mere 800,000 students. Oh, how limited! It’s not like that’s a significant number of children who could benefit from school choice. And let’s not forget that he’s also concerned about the funding for special education students. How considerate of him to prioritize that over expanding educational opportunities for all students.

But wait, it gets even better! Abbott is also worried about denying school choice to low-income families. Because, you know, those families who desperately need expanded education options for their children should just continue to be stuck in underperforming schools. Who needs choice when you can have limited options?

Meanwhile, other states like Florida and Iowa are embracing school choice and giving parents more control over their children’s education. But here in Texas, we have Governor Abbott, the guardian of the status quo, making sure that parents have limited options and that the public school system remains unchallenged.

Don’t worry, though, Abbott assures us that he’s willing to work around the clock and even call for special sessions if needed. How noble of him! Because what parents and their children really want is more political maneuvering and delays, rather than immediate action to expand school choice. Thank you, Governor Abbott, for your tireless efforts to keep our education system just the way it is.
