College Students Using Sex To Pay For Their Education

What would you do if you wanted your college degree but didn’t have enough money to pay for it? Would you sell your house in order to meet those high tuition costs?

Would you work three jobs to pay for your living expenses? Well, those questions are now being answered by college students in ways you just wouldn’t believe. Recent studies are showing that a rising number of college students are using sex to pay for their educational expenses. That’s right, folks. Our future leaders are today’s current prostitutes!

College students are complaining that the cost of rent, tuition, and school supplies are becoming too much to handle on their own. They claim that their student loans can’t cover the bills and they don’t have the financial support of their parents.

What’s a person to do in this case, you might ask? Sell your body, of course.

The unfortunate thing about this, outside of the obvious, is that many universities are fully aware of the fact that their students are prostituting themselves to pay for their tuition. What’s being done by these institutions? Not a damn thing. Universities are facing the growing reality that their numbers are declining due to their rising costs and they are struggling to figure out what to do about it. They can’t lower the cost of their tuition.

So, they simply cover their eyes to the fact that their student body sells their own body to pay for their education while attending their school. It’s all about the money and there isn’t much that anyone can do about it. The ugly thing is that many universities are actually blocking groups that are trying to support those students who are involved in sex work, according to The Independent.

One group known as the English Collective of Prostitutes (ECP) campaigns to support the decriminalization of prostitution. “Serious financial hardship and cost pressures is the driving reason for rising sex work on campus,” stated Laura Watson, a spokesperson for the ECP, in an interview with The Independent.

“We have found that people are mostly working for everyday needs, but some are definitely working to pay off the tuition fees,” Watson continued. It was then shared that the high cost of rent for students attending college was also a contributory factor in why some students felt the need to sell sex to get money.

The idea that students sell their bodies to pay for their tuition is not something new. Many students have worked as strippers or escorts to get through college on their own. The alarming thing about today’s students is that their numbers for utilizing these methods are growing. Far too many young people feel that their options for increasing their finances are diminished and can only include that of selling their bodies.

This says a great deal about how we are raising our children, the support they are given, and exactly how the U.S. expects a person to have a degree for advancement, but somehow provides very little support in the achievement of that degree.

Like most things, we must educate young people on the value that they have beyond their body. They are not taught in high school, or at home, how to make money selling skills beyond sexual. Many students have created companies selling tutorial services, goods made from home, and a plethora of other things to pay for their education (as well as provide valuable experience for their future positions).

One can only hope that the growing trend for sexual favors becomes depleted as society helps them to see the true value that they possess. Then again, it’s only valuable if the student finds it to be.

  1. Maybe we should work on making college more affordable?

    • Exactly! Those side jobs you mentioned will never make up for the amount of money they can make with sex.

    • Maybe we should work on educating our children on family values, the difference between right & wrong and the ability to know the difference?

      • G. Peralta – it’s interesting, I see this as a tragic outcome. People driven by necessity into choices they don’t want to make. You see this as a cautionary tale – people making the “wrong” choice when they should’ve made a better one.

Could it be that we need to educate our college administrators on family values? On not charging as much as they can, but as little as they need? On the value of an educated populace?

  2. I have two grandchildren who used college loans to complete their educations. One paid for her car(used) with her loans, and suddenly woke up and found she could not pay the loans into which she had thrown whatever was “necessary” for her.

Girls have used their bodies since Eve to get what they want. Boys turn to illegal activities like selling drugs and girls give sex for favors, gifts or money because this gets them the most money that they can get. The temptation to get +100K a year rather than flipping hamburgers that won’t pay for an apartment….THAT is the problem. The lack of morals, the urge for immediate satisfaction……That is the problem. The degradation of religion, morals and all other values have given us youth that find that they can get what they want by sacrificing their values. We face this or can never solve the problem.

Think of this, once a child has sold their body or soul, it is 99% of the time never going to be reversed.

  3. I am just curious where I can find the stats for the number of college students using sex to pay for college. Before I accept what I read I would like to see the original citation of these stats that was not included in this article.
