A blockbuster study released on Tuesday by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) claims American taxpayers are on the hook for approximately 2 billion dollars, which will be used to cover the cost of illegal immigrants having babies on American soil.
The report stated immigrant mothers gave birth to almost 300,000 children in 2014 — 7.5% of all births in the United States during that year.
In fact, illegal alien women are funded through government programs like Medicaid, which covers the cost of delivery in almost all cases if the mother is uninsured or has a low income.
According to CIS Research Director Steven Camarota, over 67% of new illegal mothers are either uninsured or on Medicaid.
“Paying for so many births to immigrant mothers may make sense, but the large share who can’t provide for themselves without the help of American taxpayers raises the question of whether our current immigration system makes sense,” Camarota told the Washington Examiner.
The study also revealed that both California and Texas have the largest concentration of illegal immigrant populations within the United States, including the highest birth rate of children born to illegal immigrant parents. The study revealed that over 65,000 babies born in 2014 to illegal immigrant women in California and 51,000 in Texas, with Florida a distant third with just 16,000.
The CIS data also revealed that approximately ¾ of all births in Texas to illegal parents was paid for by the American taxpayer. In California, the cost to the taxpayer was about 2/3.
Overall, about 429,000 publicly funded births were to a legal or illegal immigrant, with accounted for roughly ¼ of all taxpayer-funded births in the country.
However here’s the more shocking data, illegal immigrant births were roughly about 200,000 or 11% of all publicly funded births, while “legal immigrants accounted for about 230,000 or roughly 13%, a margin of only 2% separating the two groups.
The CIS study also revealed some additional trends that the American taxpayer should be extremely concerned about.
In 2014 (the year the study referenced), 1 in 5 births (790,000) in the United States was by an immigrant mother, regardless of legal status. The percentage of either legal or illegal is at best an educated guess, with about 490,000 births to legal aliens or roughly 12.4%, and approximately 300,000 births to illegal aliens or about 7.5%.
The study also revealed that among American born, 42% are either uninsured or on Medicaid, while the percentage of legal immigrants either uninsured or on Medicaid is a bit higher at 47%, and an astounding 67% for illegal aliens without medical insurance or on Medicaid.
Another piece of data which is perhaps even more striking, in predominantly progressive states like California, New Jersey, and New York, immigrants (legal and illegal) account for about 1/3 of all births.
In Massachusetts, Nevada, Florida, Texas, Hawaii, Maryland, and Washington, immigrants account for 1 in 4 births, and in Virginia, Connecticut, Illinois, Arizona, Rhode Island, and Oregon, immigrants’ account for 1 in 5 births.
