“Street-corner” profanity, applauded as cutting edge liberal satire

There’s an excellent reason why comedic legends like Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, George Burns, Robin Williams, Jerry Seinfeld, Mel Brooks, Billy Crystal, George Carlin and a host of others have endured the test of time. The reason being they’re FUNNY… it’s that simple!

These legendary comics are “multi-generational.” Their comedy is timeless. They understand the failings of human-nature within us all and cleverly tap into that reserved space most keep private, masterfully weaving their own unique brand of satire, leaving us better equipped in understanding our own human frailties through laughter.

This is a far cry for what passes as humor today. The latest assault to our “funny bone” came from a Canadian-born comic named Samantha Bee who up until 48-hours ago was widely unknown by most, which gives you an idea of her range of talent (somewhere within the “C” category).

Which perhaps better explains her profanity-laced attack on First Daughter Ivanka Trump, in that Bee’s comedy show titled “Full Frontal” on TBS, isn’t exactly a ratings bonanza. Much like her American counterpart Comedian Kathy Griffin, she has realized it’s a lot easier using shock imagery and profanity to garner attention than to actually work at being funny.

On Wednesday the 48-year old “comedian” went on a vile profanity-laced tirade against the First Daughter calling her a “feckless c—” during the opening monologue of her show.

Bee continued her “street-corner” assault, “Ivanka Trump, who works at the White House, chose to post the second most oblivious tweet we’ve seen this week,” citing Roseanne Barr’s meltdown as the first.

Adding, “You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices you feckless c—!”

“He listens to you! Put on something tight and low cut and tell your father to f—ing stop it. Tell him it was an Obama thing and see how it goes,” she concluded.

The self-created firestorm on social media and across the mainstream media was immediate, and Bee was finally a household name, for at least a few days anyway.

She, of course, did the “I’m sorry” bit and tweeted out, “I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.”

However unlike Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet, there will be no suspension and no firing by TBS, in fact, the liberal establishment is applauding her, for her “bravery.”

Fellow “C-list” comedian Kathy Griffin chimed in urging Bee not to apologize, however after realizing she did took to Tweeter,   “Please do not be hard on @iamsambee for apologizing. While I was hoping she wouldn’t, I know first hand what it’s like being put through the Trump wood chipper..what she’s going through right now is crazy. All for a bleeped word. Comics held to higher standards than the president.”

Then there was aging actress Sally Field, remember her?  “I like Samantha Bee a lot, but she is flat wrong to call Ivanka a c—,” she said. “C—s are powerful, beautiful, nurturing and honest.”

Moreover, what would a pile-on be without portly Michael Moore “weighing in?”

“Ha! The White House today, still not denouncing Roseanne’s racism, tries to confuse the issue by going after Samantha Bee’s brilliant rant against Ivanka last night, she’s a “truth-teller.”

Dan Gainor, a VP for the Media Research Center, told Fox News that the media was not covering Bee’s “hateful comments.”

“Immediately after the media correctly criticized Roseanne Barr for a racist statement, Samantha Bee tries to outdo her by calling Ivanka Trump the ‘C’ word. Imagine if a conservative did this to Chelsea Clinton or to the Obama daughters. We’d never hear the end of it.”

However, the final judge as to whether another vile comedian prospers or not, may actually lie in the hands of average Americans and those sponsors supporting her show. Currently, a number of advertisers have just cut ties with TBS, because of Bees disgusting antics and her declining ratings.

  1. Randell Guesno

Vulgar language tells others that one is uneducated and uncouth. It is an insult to one’s parents. I didn’t know who Samantha Bee is. Now, Samantha’s choice or words tells me that I do not want to see her performance.

    • Very well said. 100 points to you.

Samantha who??? never heard of her

    • Oh please spare me your uppity belief system. I am very highly educated, very proper when appropriate, and very vulgar when I damn well choose to be. Your Puritan reality has become mostly irrelevant.

  2. ……wow, have you ever listened to George Carlin?
    ……how about Dennis Miller?

  3. Very sad indeed. However, Samantha Bee is a talentless hack.

  4. I don’t think humor is the object. She is full of hate, and enjoys venting her hatred. Any laughs are incidental.

  5. That comedian is vulgar and nobody. This kind of people instead of trying to elevate to the level of someone like Ivanka, they want to pull her down to level they live and will continue living in.

  6. OK—once again, I want to “parse” your piece.

Let me remind you and your readers that George Carlin created a classic comic routine called “The Seven Dirty Words”. You might want to Youtube it and then take him off your list. You are right, though….it is timeless. I personally heard Robin Williams drop some interesting language as well.

Twice, you used the term “profanity-laced”. Actually, she used two words which fall into the category of profanity. That is only one more than Mr. Trump, who, on the infamous Entertainment Tonight video, told the world that “you can grab them by their “p***y”. Didn’t fire him, did you.? Still voted for him, didn’t you? Bit hypocritical don’t you think?

I am still waiting for Trump to call out Rosanne…to criticize her racist remark. Did I miss it? All I heard was him criticizing the chairman of Disney for not apologizing to him for remarks Mr. Iger made about Trump.

Do your research. Rosanne has been spewing racist remarks for many years. Someone said, “If someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time”. **Go to the end of this reply for the author of the quote.

Her “street-cornered assault” consisted of one more sentence. Not much of an assault.

Then you could not control yourself and had to refer to “aging Sally Field, remember her”? I’ve got news for you, buddy, you’re aging too! By the way, among her many awards are 2 Oscars and 2 Golden Globes. Would you like to provide us with your list of awards and accomplishments?

Next you quoted “portly Michael Moore “weighing in”. No offense, but I don’t want to see Trump in a Speedo. I’ve seen him playing in tennis gear and that was all I can take.

Do you even have the ability to criticize and evaluate comments from people without first trying to denigrate them physically first? Think it makes you wittier? More perceptive? Not so much.

Do you really think that Samantha Bee was thinking “I’ve got to say something nastier than Rosanne” when she made her remark? Can’t you do any better than that?

We don’t have to “imagine if conservatives” said something bad about the Obama daughters. We have Pamela Taylor, a West Virginai non-profit director describing Michelle Obama as an “ape in heels” and Rodner Figueroa, a conservative talk show personality now on Telemundo describing Michelle Obama as someone from the cast of “Planet of The Apes”. I didn’t notice your rage and incense when those remarks hit the airwaves.

You are probably correct when you say that ratings and advertisers will ultimately decide Samantha Bee’s future, though wouldn’t it be incredibly ironic if more people tuned in to see what the fuss is all about?

**The author of the statement was Maya Angelou, but she was black, so you probably don’t give it much weight.

    • The comments in question specifically had to do with calling a spcific person a “feckless cunt.” A direct attack on an individual. The attacks on M. OBama were a direct attack also. There is one major difference. There is nothing about Trump’s daughetr that even remotely fits the descriptors used…….and I am NOT a Trump enthusiast. That being said, M obama does in fact look eerily similar to an ape. THAT IS A FACT. Put her photo next to a photo of an ape and then argue with me.
And NO, i am not RACIST……..my black colleagues will certainly advise you of that fact. However, those colleagues do NOT LOOK LIKE APES.
VALERIE J also looks like an ape………
So sorry if I noted the striking similarities in facial features but that simply is what it is.

I said that Mr. Trump only used one “profanity-laced” remark. I FORGOT!
Do you remember him describing some countries in Africa as “shit-hole countries”? Do you, huh?

OK, so now he’s tied with Ms. Bee!

Samantha Bee was only speaking for herself…but Trump was representing the entire country!!! HE INSULTED AN ENTIRE CONTINENT as a spokesman for your country!!!!!! Or perhaps you just agree with him.

How come I don’t hear you calling for Mr. Trump’s firing?

Spare me your sanctimonious, disingenuous, hypocritical, preachy, holier-than-thou crap!

  8. There is a really big difference between vulgar language and a racist remark. It saddens me that conservatives are lumping the two incidents as similar. They aren’t.
